A Drive-In Church in Denmark
One congregation's solution to rural dwindling has been to give the faithful a way to attend the Sunday service without leaving the seat of the car. Worship from the seat of a hatchback is catching on.
The pastor broadcasts the sermon over a short-range FM frequency, and the congregation responds by flashing their headlights instead of saying "Amen."
Attendance, the parish reports, has doubled since the experiment began — drawing the curious, the elderly and, on fine mornings, more than a few tourists.
Church officials in three neighbouring dioceses say they are watching the results closely, and one has already announced plans for a drive-in Christmas service.
