Feeling Refreshed at Belmont

After 10 furlong tracks and a long off-season layoff, some 100 workers got back to their posts as Belmont Park resumed racing to a hopeful, sun-warmed crowd on Saturday.

The reopening, delayed twice by construction, drew trainers and owners eager to test their horses on the refurbished surface.

"It feels like the sport has its home back," said one longtime handler, watching the first field thunder down the stretch.
